Luigi Loir was a French painter born in Austria in 1845. His parents worked for the French royal family in exile. They returned to Paris in 1860, but he stayed behind to continue his art studies. He returned in 1863. He is best known for landscapes and Parisian street scenes. Le Manege was painted in 1900 and currently resides in the Musee Carnavalet in Paris.

James (Jacques) Tissot (1836-1902) was a French painter during the Impressionist Era but moved to London to chase after a divorcee he described as “a ravishing Irishwoman”. He stayed there until her death in 1882, then packed his bags and moved back to France. While he is best known for his Realist paintings, curiously enough, he looks like he could have been a Wild West outlaw, too. Seriously.

A colorful and chaotic representation of the stages of the cross. While the exact name of the artist is unknown, it is believed to be a copy of a Van Eyck dating from the 14th or 15th century. It currently lives in a closet at The Met in NYC. Makes one heck of a jigsaw puzzle, though.
